Examination Of Approved Plastic Surgery Options In Arkansas

November 05, 2008 By: blogger Category: Anti-Aging No Comments →

The most popular Arkansas plastic surgery procedures are rhytidectomy operations (face lifts), nose jobs (rhinoplasty), abdominoplasty (tummy tucks), liposuction and breast implants or augmentations. If you’re an Arkansas resident and want more information about these five common procedures, keep reading.

Breast Augmentation

Breast augmentation is a permanent surgical procedure that takes about 1 to 2 hours. To augment the breasts, an implant is placed either behind or just above the pectoral muscle. These implants come in a variety of shapes, styles and materials, but the two most common types are saline and silicone.

Liposuction Procedure

Liposuction works by targeting a specific area of fat deposits on the patient’s body. It’s most effective on patients who are already at an average body weight but simply wish to perfect or minimize a pinpointed area of their body.

Liposuction is, quite literally, a procedure that suctions fat cells out of the body. The patient is usually induced under general anesthesia, at which point the surgeon makes a small slice and then uses a hollow needle to remove and suction away fat deposits.

Abdominoplasty

Tummy tucks, clinically referred to as abdominoplasty surgeries, are the fastest growing Arkansas plastic surgery operation. Over 8000 tummy tucks were performed in Arkansas last year and the fastest growing sector of patients were men in their mid-to-late 30s.

The goal of a tummy tuck is to eliminate excess skin and fat in the abdominal area and tighten the existing muscles. The procedure can modify an existing body shape or be a great solution for a post-pregnancy mother or post-weight-loss patient with excess skin around the abdominal area.

Rhinoplasty Surgery

Rhinoplasty is the clinical term for a “nose job.” Arkansas plastic surgery practitioners typically take between 1 to 2 hours to perform this permanent surgical procedure. The goal of a rhinoplasty is to improve the appearance of the nose by either reducing its size or improving its shape.

The average Arkansas plastic surgery patient needs about 1 to 2 weeks to recover visibly from a nose job. That said, the internal bruising and some external swelling won’t fully diminish until approximately 4 to 6 months after the surgery.

Face Lift

A face lift, also known as a rhytidectomy, is a comprehensive surgical procedure that can take several hours to complete, followed by weeks of recovery times. While not permanent, the effects of a good facelift typically last for about 10 years.

Most Arkansas plastic surgery patients seek out a face lift to improve loose skin, deep lines, jowls, sagging chins or basic wrinkles.

Anti Aging Skin Care Just Got A Lot Easier

October 21, 2008 By: blogger Category: Anti-Aging No Comments →

Since I’ll celebrate the big 40 really soon, I’m getting concerned about looking older. Now, I guess many women start thinking about fighting the signs of aging earlier, but I’ve always had nice skin and it wasn’t until the last year or so when I started noticing changes. It seemed like the perfect time to get with the anti aging program.

When you’re young, it’s easy to refer to wrinkle creams in a joking way. I don’t know about anyone else, but just the thought of wrinkles is not one I want to entertain - at least not as it applies to my skin. No, I prefer anti aging skin care or age prevention solution or something with a nicer ring to it. And, thankfully, the anti wrinkle cream companies agree with me for the most part.

Like this product I found the other day, LifeCell cream. It calls itself the all in one anti aging skin treatment. How about that? It sounds much more pleasing than wrinkle cream although it does play pretty rough with wrinkles and a lot of other common age-related skin problems. The reason they call it an all-in-one solution is because you use it everywhere on your face - including around the eyes and mouth. It works on crow’s feet and puffiness around the eyes and plumps up lips and gets rid of fine lines around the mouth.

Even though I feel just like a kid in a candy store when I visit my favorite cosmetics counter and check out the skin care products, I’m thinking I could get used to LifeCell skin cream - after all, buying just one product instead of 5 or 6 would mean I’d have extra money to spend on other things.

Hmm… I don’t know about you, but I can think of all kinds of things to spend that extra savings on. Goodbye cosmetics counter and hello shoe department!

A Brief Assessment Of Botox Treatments In Colorado

October 17, 2008 By: blogger Category: Anti-Aging No Comments →

When it comes to plastic surgery procedures in Colorado, Botox is by far the most popular. Thanks to its low cost, non-invasiveness and rapid recovery time, the drug has quickly become a mainstay at most Colorado dermatologist and plastic surgeon offices and is a great alternative to a facelift.

Botox, also known as Botulinum Toxin Type A, was first used by ophthalmologists to treat muscles around the eye, but was then approved by the FDA in 2005 as an effective anti-wrinkle treatment.

To learn more about Botox and the injection procedure in Colorado, keep reading.

How Botox Really Works

Basically, every time you move or contract your facial muscles, the muscles release a chemical called acetylcholine that allows them to make that contraction. Unfortunately, those contractions are also the cause of most wrinkles.

Botox stops your muscles from producing and releasing acetylcholine, essentially paralyzing the treated area, preventing the contractions that deepen the appearance of existing wrinkles and preventing the formation of new ones.

Botox Has Been Proven Effective

In monitored clinical studies, most patients saw an 80 percent reduction in the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines. However, Botox is not permanent, and Colorado Botox patients typically needed refresher injections once every 3 to 5 months to maintain their results.

Step-By-Step Botox Injections

The typical first appointment for a Colorado Botox patient is simply an introduction and informational discussion with their practitioner or doctor. In this first appointment, they’ll talk about risks, results, costs and what to expect.

The second appointment for a Colorado Botox appointment is the actual treatment. It starts with your doctor finding and marking every injection point and then disinfecting the treatment area. Next, your plastic surgeon or dermatologist will measure out the required amount of Botox.

The Botox is then injected into the skin. Most of the time, there is no anesthesia used. However some doctors apply a moderate numbing cream to reduce discomfort for patients undergoing an extensive treatment. The Botox will then attach itself to the muscles, at which point full results become visible within 7 to 10 days.

The average Colorado Botox treatment lasts between 5 to 10 minutes, not including preparation time.

After Your Botox Treatment

After your Botox injections, you can go right back to work or your regular, everyday activities. Most doctors ask that you avoid laying down and try to stay out of the sun.

Finding a Practitioner

To locate a doctor who administers Botox, try the American Society of Plastic Surgeons’ website at plasticsurgery.org. Their website offers a searchable database, allowing you to limit your search to Colorado Botox suppliers and certified doctors.

Alzheimer’s Disease
Answer puzzles

Another mental exercise that people with Alzheimer’s do to help slow down the process is to answer puzzles such as word hunts, cross words and even Sudoku. The more that you use your brain, the better will be your prognosis. Answering word games will also make sure that you practice words and increase your vocabulary, making it less likely for you to forget words and language.

Attend classes

Being old does not mean that you cannot learn. Patients with Alzheimer’s should make it a point to learn something new. This will exercise their brains. Creative tasks such as arts and crafts is another way to tap into the brain’s resources without tiring them out. Learning a new thing also gives people with Alzheimer’s the sense of purpose that they have lost since they were diagnosed with the disease.

September 21, 2008 By: blogger Category: Anti-Aging No Comments →

To improve your mind and off set the effect of aging you should consider taking antioxidants and doing regular brain training exercises. Let’s see why.

To improve health and derive benefit of antioxidant, Americans are spending billions of dollars every year and with science also studying the role of antioxidants in preventing cancer as well as heart disease as well as boosting the immune system one could say that this is money well spent. The benefit of antioxidant can be seen when it prevents the onset of cancer, heart disease and diseases of aging through vitamins C and E as well cartoenoids and mineral selenium, all of which are powerful antioxidants. The amount of selenium that is contained in foods is dependent on how much of it was present in the soil in which it grew.

Selenium helps in maintaining healthy hair as well as nails and enhances immunity and along with vitamin E helps to protect cells from becoming damaged and also reduces the risk of cancer, and more particularly lung, prostrate as well as colorectal cancers. Selenium is found in foods such as garlic, seeds, Brazil nuts, meat and eggs, poultry as well as seafood and whole grains. Another source for obtaining benefit of antioxidant is beta-carotene that helps to keep the skin healthy and also prevents a person from night blindness and infections besides promoting growth as well as bone development. Food sources for obtaining beta-carotene are red and yellow-orange vegetables as well as fruits as also leafy green vegetables and fruits. They may also be present in carrots, cantaloupe, apricots, tomatoes, peppers, broccoli, spinach, sweet potatoes as well as pumpkins.

Vitamin E And Vitamin C

Vitamin E and Vitamin C are also useful in deriving benefit of antioxidant and vitamin E acts as a protector of essential fats that exist in cell membranes as well as in red blood cells. Vitamin E helps in the reduction of risk of cancer, heart disease as well as other age-related diseases. Vitamin E is found in foods such as peanut butter, nuts, seeds, margarine and vegetable oils as well as in wheat germ, avocado and whole grains and salad dressings. Vitamin C is another source to derive benefit of antioxidant and helps to destroy free radicals that may exist inside or outside cells and also helps to form connective tissue and heals wounds and helps to absorb iron. Vitamin C is also helpful in preventing bruising and also keeps gums healthy and can reduce the risk of cataract, heart disease and cancer. Vitamin C is found in peppers, tomatoes, citrus fruits and juices, spinach, broccoli, berries, potatoes, cabbage as well as in mangoes and papayas.

improve your mind even further by performing regular brain training exercises. The combination of both is very powerful and allows you to pump additional blood into your brain and revive neurons.

Antioxidant Nutrition -a Guide

September 15, 2008 By: blogger Category: Anti-Aging No Comments →

Antioxidant is a broad term used to describe a group of minerals, vitamins, carotenoids and polyphenols. They protect the body from cell-damaging free radicals. Vitamins A, E, C and the mineral selenium are well known antioxidants. Lutein, lycopene and beta-carotene are carotenoids that have high antioxidant nutrition and give many vegetables and fruits their color. Beta-carotene is found in carrots and pumpkins and is what gives them their vibrant orange color. You can find lutein in leafy green vegetables. It is important in eyesight. Red fruits and vegetables, like tomatoes, contain lycopene. Eating a colorful diet gives you the variety and nutritional value you need.

So why are they called antioxidants? The name represents the mechanism by which they help prevent disease. In humans, a small but significant percentage of oxygen molecules in the body will become electrically charged due to natural cellular activity and/or exposure to environmental factors like tobacco smoke and radiation. The oxygen molecule becomes a “free radical” as it undergoes this process of oxidation. Free radicals are highly reactive as they try to steal electrons from other molecules, including DNA and cellular membranes. This chain reaction of free radicals can damage cells, which may play a role in the development of certain conditions like heart disease and cancer. Antioxidants, however, stop the chain-reaction by giving up electrons and neutralizing free radicals so that they cannot induce any more oxidative damage.

Many studies have shown the link between free radicals and several degenerative diseases associated with aging. Thus, it is possible that antioxidant nutrition can be beneficial in reducing the incidence of cancer, cardiovascular disease, cognitive impairment, Alzheimer’s disease, immune dysfunction, cataracts, stroke, and macular degeneration.

There is an abundance of Vitamin A in liver, dairy and fish. Vitamin C is found in bell peppers and citrus fruits while Vitamin E is plentiful in oils, fortified cereals, seeds and nuts. The mineral selenium can be found in Brazil nuts, meats, tuna and plant foods. You will find lutein in green vegetables like broccoli, Brussels sprouts, peas and kale. Tomatoes, watermelon, pink grapefruit and papaya are all good sources of lycopene. Beta-carotene is abundant in sweet potatoes, carrots and squash. If you are not getting enough in your diet, the next step you may want to consider is nutritional supplements.

To find more information regarding antioxidant nutrition, you can use a search engine on the web to search for anti aging facts. Getting solid nutritional information regarding supplements is the first step in creating your knowledge base. Another great source of data is a nutritionist. They can appraise your diet regimen and give you suggestions with regards to the need for supplementation. Learn more about Anti Aging Facts.

Fit Over 40 - Get In Shape Now For A Healthier Tomorrow

September 10, 2008 By: blogger Category: Anti-Aging No Comments →

Senior fitness seems almost impossible for some people. In fact, it would seem that the deck is stacked against us.

Back when you were a teenager or young adults, losing weight probably seemed easy. Or, at least it was easier than a few years down the road. There’s a lot of science to back up the fact that it is harder to lose weight with age. It’s not just your imagination.

First of all, metabolism slows with each passing year. That means you can’t burn off, or use up, as many calories as when you were younger. By eating the exact same number of calories and keeping all other factors equal, you will gain weight due to this decrease.

Another big hit is that muscle mass starts to deteriorate with age. Muscle plays a large role in metabolism levels so the two go hand in hand. If you don’t do something to maintain or even build muscle, you will get fatter and weaker.

By allowing yourself to become weak, you set yourself up for broken bones and other accidents that could lead to a loss of independence at some point. This is seen all too often with older adults.

The solution is to take action now, whatever your age. Once you get the all clear from your doctor, get busy with an exercise program. Whether you choose home exercise or decide to join a gym, every effort you make will play a big role in having a healthy and full life enjoyed on your own terms.

Although it may seem strange and confusing at first, senior fitness isn’t difficult provided you go about it the right way. Do yourself a favor and get your hands on a good health and fitness program designed for adults, rather than bodybuilders or kids. Specialized programs will help you set realistic goals designed for the shape you’re in now as well as where you want to be.

Hinder Aging - 5 Approaches To Put The Brakes On

August 21, 2008 By: blogger Category: Anti-Aging No Comments →

Aging is inevitable, but there are steps you can take to slow the aging process that are more natural than the use of anti-wrinkle creams, Botox, or even plastic surgery.

For five simple changes you can make to keep yourself young, keep reading.

1. Drink Lots of Water

Water helps keep our bodies hydrated, functioning and clean. It flushes out toxins, increases circulation, improves digestion, revitalizes cell growth and helps us maintain a healthy weight.

Just as our skin needs moisture to stay fresh, our bodies need water to stay young, strong and operating at prime capacity. Ideally, you should be drinking 8 glasses of water a day.

2. Get Enough Sleep

Sleep is a body’s time to rejuvenate and repair itself. You know that after a night with little sleep, you have circles under your eyes, your skin looks shallow, you don’t feel well and your eyes are bloodshot. Anything that can age you so quickly in a few hours can’t be good in the long-term.

So, getting enough sleep every night is one of your best weapons against the aging process. Shoot for at least 7 to 9 hours of sleep a night and avoid drinking caffeine less than 5 hours before bedtime.

3. Eat a Well Balanced Diet

Eating a healthy diet can keep your digestive system working properly and your body well-fueled to fight off disease and aging-causing free radicals. Stock up on foods like pomegranates, blueberries, dark green vegetables, beans and legumes.

Also, foods that are high in Vitamins A and C, like citrus fruits, are great for your skin and can help boost the production of collagen, the fiber that keeps your skin smooth and soft.

4. Cut Down On Stress

Stress is a major factor in the aging process and can lead to prematurely grey hair, a depleted immune system, facial expression wrinkles and even poor skin tone. So to slow down aging, reduce your stress level by cutting back o your work hours, avoiding rush hour traffic, limiting your responsibilities, delegating tasks and taking at least ten minutes out of every day for meditation and reflection.

5. Stay on Top of Mental Exercise

Slowing down the aging process isn’t just about fighting wrinkles, but it’s also about maintaining a young and healthy mind.

Research has shown that individuals who did daily puzzles and mental exercises were 30 percent less likely to develop Alzheimer’s or Parkinson’s disease later in life. So, stay young with a daily book or crossword puzzle.

Aging itself is inevitable. But the appearance and effects of aging can be reduced with proper care of your body and skin.
