During this phase, teenagers experience mixed emotions about themselves and about the people living in their social environment. The information about teenage parenting will be handy for you, especially when it will guide you thoroughly to understand the top two critical issues that a teenager particularly faces during his or her teens.

Self-Esteem and Fitting In
One of these issues is self-esteem and fitting in. During this period, kids become excessively concerned about their perceived acceptance level. They continuously seek reassurance from others about their value to them and they always feel an urge to reassure themselves about how much they are loved by others. As a parent you must know how to encourage them to realize about those aspects they are particularly good at. You must know how to respect his or her privacy with peers while being cautious about your teen’s lifestyle as well.

So, don’t forget this is a crucial phase which you must not avoid, especially when you find your daughter or son is wearing something seductive and mostly prefer late night outings. You must talk to your daughter or son and let her understand about the potential danger about this type of lifestyle.

Reinforce Consistent Discipline
Disciplines bring responsibility. Even if you are free with your daughter or son, you must not be afraid when you reinforce discipline as a parent. But remember one thing that discipline must come in a consistent fashion. To be a successful teenage parent, you must make it sure that the basic requirements are met. You may take suggestions from other parents and read different publications focusing on teenage parenting guidance for help establishing disciplines like must check in before dinner time, no car dating until the child becomes 16, etc.

Award and Punishment
It is the worst idea if you do any physical harm to your daughter or son if he or she breaks any rule set by you. In addition, emotional humiliation is not also a good choice. Rather it is better to notice what your teen likes. Pick it to make the punishment. Like punishment, you should also offer award to your teens. But, it is not a good idea to buy a car for your teen. Instead you may take your teen for a lovely dinner or buy a handheld gadget such as cell phone or music devices. You may also look over the internet and other teen publications specializing in teenage parenting guidance for assistance exploring different new ideas on teen awards and punishments.

Families and Relocation

November 17, 2008 By: blogger Category: Family & Parenting No Comments →

About 15% of the American population moves each year according to the US census bureau. There are many different reasons for these relocations. Reasons might include things such as new jobs, health reasons, or weather related things such as tornadoes. Planning a move in advance will help you make sure that your move is a incomplex and easy one. Stress builds up fast, but organizing can relieve some of this. You will find a nearly endless number of choices open to you when you move, so you will have to do a little bit of looking before you can settle on a final decision. Finding things like truck rentals is overly simple and you can book one by providing a little bit of personal information.

One of the very first decisions that you need to make is which method of moving that you want to use. You can pick from a full-service company that will take care of all the aspects of your relocation, or one of the many self pack moving companies that are out there today. While a full service company will pack, load, and drive in a very professional and efficient manner, it may not always be the right option for your situation or move. The biggest downfall to this method is the fact that it is quite costly. In order to cut costs, you can pack and load yourself using the self pack method instead. When you choose to move with this method, you will pack and load a container, but the company will drive it to its destination. This method is a great combination of full service moving companies and the truck rental choices.

Moving pods and portable storage are good options for people who are moving across state lines and who want to have some control of their move. It is also a lot cheaper to take this route than it would be to hire a full service company. All that you need to do when you take this route is schedule the service. They will drop a container or trailer off at your home and you will be tasked will filling it up. Once it is packed, the company will come and drive the container to your new home. Once there, you will need to unpack it. You will have some control of your move, but you will not have to worry about driving a long distance.

If you want more time and flexibility, however, you can always obtain a truck rental. Renting a truck will enable you to build your moving schedule around the needs that you already have planned. Using this method will enable you and your family to really save on moving costs. You need to remember, however, that it is up to you to pack everything that you own as well as loading it up in the truck and driving it to your new location.

The internet has really made it easy to get information about things like a moving van rental. You can now get moving quotes from many different companies as well as information about many aspects of moving all online. Some companies even offer discounts if you book your move online. These discounts can really help you save when you move.

Cope With Organizing Your Life: Top Self Help Ideas

November 17, 2008 By: blogger Category: Family & Parenting No Comments →

Whenever it comes to balancing a family, including young children, a home and perhaps a full time job to boot, you have choices. If you find that your workload sometimes seems like it is just too much, take heart!

From an outside perspective, I would say that the secret to success in organizing is the ability to prioritize your various commitments, enlist the help of others, and not sweat the small stuff.

Do you feel overwhelmed? If you would like good time management skills, practice the COPE method.

COPE is an acronym for Capitalize, Organize, Prioritize, and Energize.

* Capitalize on the ability of every child to assist with household chores such as setting the table, clearing the dishes and vacuuming the floor. Train them from a very young age to put away their toys and make their own beds. Put all of your perfectionist tendencies aside while the children are growing up. Do more with your children and less for your children. If you do all of this, you will be blessed.

* Organize your home to make it easier to locate and store things. Large shelves or a huge toy chest and hangers placed where children can reach them are good examples. Keep things in see-through containers, hang an essential rack on the wall, keep storage bins on casters beneath the beds and then centrally locate a lost and found basket to stash items left lying around the house.

* Prioritize each of your tasks. You cannot do everything but you can do a lot. Pick the most important activity and then concentrate on getting it done. If something falls through the cracks, let it be the laundry but not the family outing. Do what is really important, not simply the things that need to be done.

* Energize yourself by getting plenty of rest, eat all of the right foods and adhere to an exercise program. Being physically fit and mentally alert will allow you to cope with those stressful situations, which always pop up. Pick a form of exercise that you enjoy that way you are more likely to stick with it. The best way to ensure that you eat a balanced diet is to plan ahead and work out a menu for the next 4 or 5 days. Make sure you eat lots of fruit and vegetables. And incorporate some relaxtaion techniques into your daily life. Do not do chores at the expense of sleep time. Let the house collapse all around you before you do.

Are Baby Front Carrier Any Good?

November 15, 2008 By: blogger Category: Family & Parenting No Comments →

If I was told I could only have one item of infant equipment, without hesitation, I would choose a baby sling. I did not own a sling for my first three of my seven children. I had no knowledge of them outside of maybe seeing pictures of women in third world countries using them to strap their babies to them. Something significant happened during the seven years between the births of my third and fourth daughter: the rise in popularity of the internet. With the internet came the simple exchange of ideas.

Other hands free ways to hold your baby are Baby Front Carrier and baby backpacks. Greco and Baby Bjorn are two of the more fashionable brands of front carriers. With these, two padded shoulder straps go over your shoulders and criss-cross your back. The straps adjust to accommodate different sizes and shapes. The baby is then slid into a supportive pocket with leg holes that leave the feet dangling. As the baby grows and gets bigger, many carriers allow the baby to face outward. Personally speaking, the baby front carrier seemed challenging to me. If the baby fell asleep while in the carrier, it was challenging to gently remove her to lay her down in the crib. Also, having the baby in front was both physically and visually impairing, making the accomplishments of such tasks as sewing, meal preparation, cleaning, caring for older children, et cetera more challenging.

Baby backpacks have metal or plastic tube frames to stand the frame up in order to put in the child. Then the frame is lifted and slid onto the back of the adult. I learned that the baby got heavy quickly with this method. Also, I didn’t like the fact that I had no visual contact with the baby while she was on my back. I also couldn’t just sit down and take a rest without having to first remove the backpack. I personally didn’t like the functionality of the backpack for times when the baby fell asleep. Additionally, it was rather bulky and took up quite a bit of space when it was not in use.

Nine years ago, after the birth of my fourth daughter, I was finally introduced to … cue up the Halleluah chorus … A BABY SLING!!! There are several kinds; my favourite sling style was a long piece of fabric that fed through two metal fastening rings, leaving a “tail” of fabric. The absolute favorite was the Maya Wrap with a pocket sewn into the tail, which I used to carry a couple extra nappies and wipes, and often my car keys and notecase! With the baby sling, I could carry the baby high or low, on the front, side, or back, facing forward or facing me, and lying down or sitting up. I was also able to breast feed in a discreet, usually hands free manner, covering any unintentional exposure with the tailpiece of the sling, which easily went over my shoulder. As the infant grew, the sling easily adjusted to accommodate her changing comfort preferences. Up until my children were about four or five years old, I was able to continuously use my sling for hands free carrying. As a child care center owner, there were many times where I was able to put two children comfortably in one sling allowing me to still use my hands for other things. I frequently used the sling to hold and bottle-feed infant twins.

As you can see, I am a bit biased toward slings, but the other hands free baby carriers might be absolutely ideal for your needs. Look at all alternatives and try a few out. Whichever you choose, you will be a happier, more productive new parent as you learn to incorporate the joy of nurturing your newborn with the other long list of tasks that you have.

How I Get My Kids Away From Their Video Games}

November 14, 2008 By: blogger Category: Family & Parenting No Comments →

All my kids talk about getting every year for Christmas is video games if they don’t go downstairs and find Gears of War 2 under our new white flocked christmas tree I do not know how they will survive. It makes me a little nuts since I do all I can to get my kids outdoors. I would much rather give them a pair of new skates or golf clubs then some mind numbing thing that will enchant them in front of the television. Oh well I guess you just learn that kids are kids. Fighting with them is just too much work.

That being said I’ve tried to find some tricks for my family and video games. I do a couple of things in an effort to force them outside. First off I limit their time every day to one hour (they can earn more). I have discovered that limiting the time is key to everything else because then they know time above and beyond that is to be earned. I do give them some ways to earn more time in front of the television. That leads me to talk about trick number two. They have a few options to earn more television time, either playing outside or doing some chores for me. I like the chores option because it is nice for me to have a few less things to do, and the reward for them isn’t bad either. I intentionally made it with the purpose of them getting around one hour of television time for every one hour they spend on chores.

The number two way they get more television time is by spending some of their time outside. For every hour they spend outside they get fifteen minutes of video games. I know that it isn’t a huge payoff for the boys, but they like being outside and I do not think it’s a lot for me to ask of them. This mostly pays off for them on weekends. They can play outdoors for the day on Saturday and then spend the night playing video games. Realistically a night of playing games and watching movies isn’t so bad after a full day outside.

That being said I’m ok with one or two ending up under white flocked christmas tree this year , that is if it allows for the positives of getting the boys outside and making them a little more obedient. They had better like the games they’re getting, because I know I’ll like my “gift” of one more thing to use “against” my boys.

Keep Your Home Safe With These Easy Tips

November 13, 2008 By: blogger Category: Family & Parenting No Comments →

As each day goes by thieves find more ways to disrupt our lives . There are so many countries where people live each day with the fear that when they come back from work they might find their homes burglarized. Most of the time the criminals go unprosecuted and the police are defenseless much of the time . Most home criminals look at this as an easy way to pull in money . Most of them will not bother to develop scenarios for complicated burglary, unless the target can bring them the “queen’s diamond”. So the burglars look for homes with easy access. Your best line of defense is to make it down right frustrating for a burglar to enter your home . You need to make sure the entrances are strong , secure the windows, employ good lighting and use reliable a alarm Systems

Fortify Your Entrance Points

Your first option could be using a metal door, they may not look the best but most crooks can’t get through them . Most burglars do not possess the skills we see in movies. If a house is too difficult to burglarize, they will simply avoid it. Statistic, housebreakers prefer to enter via the garage door. For this reason do not use metal doors solely to fortify your main entrance, but to secure all the other points of entry as well. Keep in mind doors that use thin wooden frames are very easy to break . Go get yourself a strong door also use quality locks to make sure they cannot crack it .

Make sure you have all your windows on lock down

The idea that most criminals are deterred by day light is just a myth . The most common home invasion takes place while people are at work . An open window is an invitation. Making sure your windows are locked when you are not home . That is why you should use a window jam to hold it in place. Usually housebreakers prefer ground floor windows as well as basement windows and windows on a deck .If you add a window jam make sure there is no way the thief can reach it , Use Lighting to Show Signs of Activity at Night

If you are out of town on a trip , make sure your home will not stay darken night after night. A great way to deter burglars is by using light timers . This cool little device can be used to have some lights turn on and off at certain times .

Don’t undervalue the importance of exterior lighting. Since burglars do not want to be seen or identified, good exterior lighting will discourage them to come near your home. For this purpose use security lights with infrared motion detectors.

The trust old burglar alarm works well

If a thief sees any sign that a house has an alarm chances are they probably are not going to hang around . Having an alarm is only effective if it is used . Take care of your alarm code and don’t write it in visible places. Make it hard for the burglars to gain access to your house .

Autism Education Issues Adults Need To Know

November 12, 2008 By: blogger Category: Family & Parenting No Comments →

Autism Learning Disabilities
The Autism Research Institute, or ARI, is a huge worldwide network of parents and professionals who are concerned about the affects of this autistic disorder. The ARI’s data banks are filled with case information and case histories on over 40,000 children with an autistic disorder from around the world who need Learning Disabilities. It is this Institute’s hope to be able to bring awareness to the world about these autistic disorders and to fund more research so that one day there will be a cure.

The founder of The Autism Research Institute was recognized internationally as an authority on autistic disorders and who also had a child with autism; Bernard Rimland, Ph.D. Doctor Rimland is the author of a prize winning book named Infantile Autism. It was because of his experiences with this disorder that he was able to help many parents world wide to understand their autistic child on a whole new level. Doctor Rimland also worked on the motion picture Rain Man as the chief technical advisor.

The Institute publishes a quarterly newsletter that covers the different advances in the world of autistic disorders. These advances include those of a biomedical nature and those that refer to education. This Institute is a non-profit organization which relies on chartable contributions from those who understand and are concerned with the needs of individuals who have autism spectrum disorders. The ARI believes that its purpose is to help parents of autistic children who are overwhelmed by fear and grief and to motivate them to find help to cope with the situation.

While it is the hope of experts and parents that someday there will be a cure for autistic disorders, at the moment a cure is not near. The agenda for organizations, such as the Autism Research Institute, is to further educate individuals about the autistic spectrum disorders and to raise awareness on how much research is needed to find the illusive cure. Dr. Rimland believed that the lifestyles of individuals with this disorder could be improved upon and the stress on the families of the autistic patient could be lightened, by sharing his research and experiences.

Causes Of Childhood Obesity: Practical Good Parenting Help

November 09, 2008 By: blogger Category: Family & Parenting No Comments →

As if there are not enough problems to worry about with your children, there is the issue of children putting on too much weight. There seems to be two main extremes with parents when it comes to this sensitive subject. There are the parents who put a lot of stress on their kids to stay thin and then there are the parents who could not care less how much their son or daughter weighs as they think it is all just innocent baby fat. Both extremes are dangerous and both are some of the causes of childhood obesity.

If too much pressure is put on a child to be a particular weight or to look a certain way, the opposite of what the parent is trying to achieve may happen. Children who have a lot of pressure about food may end up eating too much in order to be emotionally content which is one of the causes of childhood obesity. Children who are allowed to pick and eat absolutely whatever they please are also one of the causes of childhood obesity. And then of course there are the children who suffer from extra weight and they appear to eat a standard and pretty healthy diet.

Setting A Good Example
When it comes to young children, parents should never really be using the word diet around them because of the emotional and long lasting effect it can have on the child. Instead, simply change what groceries you purchase and what you prepare for dinner. Be sure that there are only healthy snacks in the house in order to monitor what it is that your son or daughter is eating. If you fear that the child will not eat the healthier food, rest assure that if he or she gets hungry enough they will eat it. In the end, you are the adult in the relationship and it is your decision on what they do or do not eat.

Another good thing to do is to lead by example so make sure that you are not stuffing your face with a donut while insisting that they can only have an apple. Families that eat well together and exercise together are families that stay healthy together. Parents not getting involved in the lives of their children are one of the major causes of childhood obesity. In order to end this trend all parents have to step up to the mark and take action so that the next generation will be strong, happy and healthy.

Parenting Issue - Are Parenting Problems Just A Mytrh

November 06, 2008 By: blogger Category: Family & Parenting No Comments →

Dealing with a parenting problem needs to be addressed on different levels. Not all parenting problems can be put in the same basket but one thing they have in common is the solution is never immediate.

Reacting on impulse as a solution is never a smart thing. Tackling each problem on it’s merits is a good start. There are various stages in a child’s life where they are going to run into problems simply because of growing up. It may be school work, peer pressure, eating problems, relationship issues…there is any number of situations children will face which will present you with a parenting problem.

So how do you react? Seeking solutions today seems a heck of a lot easier than it was even two decades ago. In fact, the benefit of living in the 21st century and dealing with a parenting problem is you can now remain anonymous. And the internet has given us the opportunity too.

But by the same token, it may not be the ideal situation simply because you are dealing with advice in cyber space and have no idea who or where the advice is coming from. Many parenting solution organizations are now online and the best advice you can get is to stick with the ones you know rather than getting on many of the forums and trying to read between the lines.

Children’s Issues

Here’s a parenting problems or two which you may resonate with:

- getting your child to clean their room
- improving your child’s habits around the home
- getting your child to spend more time away from the television or computer
- picking up bad or even deadly habits such as drugs
- eating disorders or simply trying to get them to eat right
- school work issues and getting your child to study

Three Parenting Problem Solution Points

A problem isn’t one until you recognize it. Until you admit to yourself there is an issue finding a solution is pointless. So let’s take a look at some avenues you can pursue to find help with your parenting problem:

1. Finding suitable reference points online. There are also chat room on these sites where you can interact with real parents who have encountered similar problems and can share with you what worked for them

2. Referring to books and again, online is an easy way to get hold of books without asking for help in person if you want to remain anonymous. In the area too you can find books on almost any subject with great advice and solutions.

3. There is always professional help available if you consider you need to seek some. Locally, your city council will have a list of areas you can refer to and it’s important to choose the right solution center.

Some parental problems may be solved right away while some may take a lot longer or may need to try many different approaches to get to the bottom of it; where as some may require constant working on it for long periods of time; whatever the case, recognizing a parenting issue and working on it for as long as it takes is the only way to deal with it.
