How To Begin To Help Someone Quit Smoking
As a caring human being, you naturally want to help someone stop smoking, especially if that person is a loved one. When a smoker does decide to quit, his friends and family can offer wise moral support to be smoke-free.
Bear in mind that there is great individual difference in quitting behavior for every smoker. Some people get very agitated and difficult to live with or to be around. But be patient and don’t give up on him. Continue to encourage him any way you can to stop smoking.
After quitting, for the first few days you friend may want to talk a lot, almost constantly. He may require extra support when a tough situation arises, such as a coffee or tea break or post-meal period.
You need to offer lots of praise and rewards along this journey to make this an event worthy of celebration. The rewards just have to be simple such as a card or a flower. This will encourage the person to keep going to try to conquer his smoking habit.
For this person’s one month anniversary of quitting smoking, you could throw a special dinner party. You can also go to a movie together, go for a nice evening walk or just spend some quality time together.
