A Weight Loss Journey
I knew that my health was in trouble. The news was not good. I had aches that did not go away as easily, I was at risk for diabetes and it was all being caused by the extra pounds I had packed on. Most of these maladies can be avoided if a person takes the time to treat their body right. Doctors can prescribe drugs that can take care of the symptoms that arise, but in order to truly fix the problem, the weight must go.
So we had the results, but the solution was not that easy to arrive at. Many people have said that they intend to lose the extra weight, but when it is time to actually do the work they don’t commit to it. We faced the same issues that confronts a lot of people. The list of diet and exercise programs available is endless. It’s hard to watch television without seeing a commercial that promises to show you how to lose weight fast. But just because somebody succeeded with a plan does not guarantee success for others. A person has to research the available diet and exercise programs to find the one that fits their lifestyles. It is important to be comfortable with the plan that you choose. If someone does not have much free time to do anything extra than they can’t start a program that needs them to devote several hours a day to make it work. If money is an obstacle, than a program needs to be found that does not require the purchase of special food or equipment. There is not a one size fits all solution available.
One of the most important things to do is to be realistic about your plans. The extra weight did not arrive overnight, and it will not disappear overnight. You can’t start an exercise program by doing six pack ab exercises for six hours a day and if you don’t set realistic goals to achieve and go about reaching them in a reasonable way, than you won’t succeed in your weight loss plan. When you set goals that can be achieved, it is easier to stay motivated and therefore it is easier to reach your goals.
It is helpful when you don’t enter into this journey alone. The more people that are around to offer support, the harder it is to give up when your feel as if you are failing. People who are going through the same struggles can give a person the extra motivation that is sometimes needed while trying to lose weight. Another person can help you to avoid the pitfalls that always seem to crop up. Friends and family offer great support, but there are also other places to get that support such as websites like the biggest loser forum that offer diet tips, lifestyle tips and chat rooms where you can discuss issues that you are facing. By sharing your weight loss adventure with others, it can make what is a chore to some, become a fun thing to do for all. A workout buddy can also be helpful. The other person can provide an extra push to help you work harder than you would by yourself.
When everything is considered, it is not needed to understand why someone makes the decision to begin a diet and exercise program. By living a healthier lifestyle , I have a better opportunity to spend more time with the people that I love. By getting down to a healthy weight, the chances of that occurring have gone up. But by working at it on a daily basis we were able to return to that doctor and within a year be told that we were well on our way to a much longer and healthier life. We learned through this weight loss adventure that we did not ever have to settle for things the way they are.
